Considerations and Recommendations for Effective Literacy Co-Teaching By Greg Conderman
Document: Article
Introductory Paragraph: Co-teaching is an instructional delivery approach involving two licensed teachers providing differentiated instruction in a classroom with learners of various skill or ability levels. Co-teachers (typically with different areas of expertise) collaboratively plan, deliver, and assess instruction within a system of parity. Due to the large number of students who experience reading challenges, the reading specialist is a natural choice for a co-teaching partner. However, co-teaching efforts have met with mixed results. Therefore, this article provides ideas to maximize co-teaching outcomes when a reading specialist serves as one of the co-teachers.
