Introductory Paragraph: “Legacy Voices” is a column devoted to providing readers with informative interviews with seminal researchers and respected practitioners in the field of literacy from within our country and around the world. Recently, we had the pleasure of talking with Dr. Alfred W. Tatum. Dr. Alfred W. Tatum is a professor in the School of Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver. In 2024, he served as President of the Literacy Research Association. He is a proud alum of Northern Illinois University and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He began his career as an 8th-grade teacher on Chicago’s South Side.
