Authors, Books, and Beyond: A Conversation with Rekha Rajan About That Swingin' Sound
By Amina Chaudhri

Document: Column

Introductory Paragraph:  Dr. Rekha S. Rajan is the author of many fiction and nonfiction books for children, including her most recent biography of the friendship and collaboration between Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, That Swingin’ Sound. As a trained musician herself, she knows full well the power of music to sooth and entertain us, and this biography is a tribute to two icons with a lasting musical and cultural legacy. That Swingin’ Sound highlights their collaboration and invites readers to consider how many other accomplished people’s roads to success were forged in partnership with others. In this interview, Rekha shared ways in which her desire to reach young readers dovetailed with her career as a musician and educator, and what she hopes readers will take from her books.
