Authors, Books, and Beyond: Conversation with Cozbi A. Cabrera
By Amina Chaudhri

Document: Column

Introductory Paragraph:  On the landing page of Cozbi Cabrera’s website are the words “I really like making things.” Follow this understated invitation through the website and you will realize how multifaceted an artist she is. In the world of children’s literature, Cozbi has been recognized for her illustration of Exquisite: The Poetry and Life of Gwendolyn Brooks by Suzanne Slade, Most Loved in the World by Tonya Cherie Hegamin, and several poetry books by Nikki Grimes. Most recently, she won the Coretta Scott King Honor and Caldecott Honor for Me & Mama. I had an opportunity to interview Cozbi about her creative process and the serendipitous journey that led her to where she is now.
